Logging events
An "event" is anything that happens to an animal that's worth writing down. Weights, vaccinations, kiddings, sales, sicknesses, treatments — all of them are events. Logging them is the same flow every time.
The basic loop
- Open the animal.
- Hit the + button (or "Log event").
- Pick the event type.
- Fill in the fields. The form changes per type — a weight has one number; a vaccination has a product, lot, withdrawal period.
- Save.
That's it. Everything else is variation on this.
The event types
- Weight. A weighing. Number + units + date.
- Vaccination. Product, lot number, dose, withdrawal period. The withdrawal period turns into a Maintenance reminder so you don't sell milk or meat too soon.
- Medication. Like a vaccination but for treatment, not prevention. Same withdrawal handling.
- Procedure. Anything done to the animal — banding, dehorning, hoof trim, deworming, a vet exam.
- Observation. "She's off her feed today." "Limping on the right rear." Free-text notes you'll want later when the vet asks "when did this start?"
- Pregnancy check. Confirmed, open, recheck. Drives the kidding/calving window on the maintenance card.
- Breeding. Who's running with whom. Pair an animal with a sire and an exposure date.
- Birth. A kidding, lambing, calving, farrowing. Creates the new animals as a side effect — they show up in the roster automatically.
- Weaning. When the offspring went off the dam.
- Sale. Sold, gifted, traded — anything that means it's no longer yours. Marks the animal as disposed.
- Death. Same idea, the other outcome. Marks as disposed.
- Note. Catch-all for "I want to remember this happened."
Most event types accept an optional photo. A picture of the vaccine label, the lameness, the kid an hour after it was born — all worth keeping.
Editing or deleting an event
Open the event from the animal's history (or from the maintenance card). Hit edit, fix the typo, save. To delete, hit delete. Deletes that involve disposition (sale, death) flip the animal back to "active" — you can recover from a wrong tap.
Maintenance
Each animal has a maintenance card on its detail page — overdue, due, upcoming items pulled from the events you've logged plus the schedule for that species. The flock-wide maintenance view rolls every animal's card up into one filterable list.
